On the Go

I have started some new scrap quilts that I plan to give away as baby gifts. I like the thought of kid quilts rather then baby quilts, they are only babies for so long and kids for much longer.
Here is what I started with,  a pattern and then went to my fabric stash and my fat quarter stash and raided it for all the kid and colourful fabrics.

I did allot of cutting, I have to make 2 kid quilts for 2 friends of mine that are expecting. So I cut enough to make 2 quilts and I have chosen 2 separate fabrics for the sashing, which you can see in the pattern is the black part. I chose black with a vine pattern with snails and butterflies for one and black with pencil crayon shavings for the other.
I know one gal is having a girl but the other is a mystery.
The pattern is great, not hard to follow, no complicated instructions and it tells you do the sewing in chains. They tell you to chain sew the sashing to the 2X2 squares.

Here are a few squares sewn together and you will understand what I meant about the black sashing.

I do not have it finished yet, I have it laid out on my basement floor ready to sew the rows together.

I have to get it sewn and off the floor as a friend is coming over next week so I can help her finish her quilt and we will need the floor space.
Stay tuned...................

  1. They are awesome Val,I love the prints and the darker borders, and I agree, Kid quilts make much better sense than baby quilts, make much more use of them, and hey that's how you want them, well used, no sense in keeping beautiful quilts stuck in a cupboard to "keep them nice". love it
